Yesterday afternoon I went to get Amelia up from her nap but got distracted by some mess or another in her room that I wanted to quickly pick up before she was free-range. Apparently I didn't more quite fast enough because out of the corner of my eye I saw her throw her leg up and over the rail of her crib as if to make an escape all on her own. Oy.
So, with that we transitioned her crib into a toddler bed {it's a convertible crib}. Cheyenne & I were fighting back tears thinking about how this is just one less bit of her babyness that we have.
We had prepared ourselves for the possibility that she would hate the new bed situation {one of couples friends from baby class had that happen with their daughter} and decided that if Amelia went ape and freaked out then we would put it back into "crib mode" and just be super vigilant about not letting her play in it for safety sake and revisiting the big girl bed situation when she was more ready.
Well, that preparing was all for not because Homegirl LOVES her big girl bed! As soon as we put the mattress back into the now 3 sided bed she went berserk with excitement! She brought all of her books and most cherished stuffed animals into the bed and read to her little audience instead of eating dinner and then when we went to check on her she had totally tucked herself in {blankets, pillow, and all} and waved to us and loudly declared "BYE BYE" and shooed us out of the room so that she could go to bed a full 90 minutes early.
I love her.
I'll post photos later today after she's had her breakfast and looks a little less like a Dickensian waif.
